CHINESE NEW YEAR (Year of the Dragon)

by in Poetry

A child lives in China with his father and his mother,

And for the fifteen days of New Year, each day is like no other.

As the Chinese New Year starts, they sweet and mop and dust,

For cleaning out the old ways is a Chinese New Year “must.”

The family shops for oranges, for fish and flowering plums,

They want to be prepared, when the Chinese New Year comes.

Red is a happy color, they put red poetry on the door,

The mother cooks some dumplings and the father sweeps the floor.

On the first day of the New Year, family members they will greet,

On that day also, they give their dog a treat!
